DHAKA, July 11, 2019 (BSS) – Ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) today urged the education ministry to construct more residential halls, enrich libraries and reduce session jam in public universities.
“Students’ sufficient accommodation and transport facilities, modernised libraries and laboratories, regular classes and exams, proper students-teachers ratio, transparency in teachers’ recruitment, fair evaluation of exam papers, safe food and water and security on the campus should be ensured,” said BCL representatives drawing from 32 public universities of the country.
The BCL leaders came up with the observations while addressing an education dialogue titled “Challenges and Possibility in Higher Education” held at International Mother Language Institute here.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, BCL President Md Rezwanul Hoque Chowdhury Shovon and BCL General Secretary (GS) Golam Rabbani were present there.
Addressing the discussion, Dr Dipu Moni urged the BCL leaders to make the campuses free from drugs, violence, militancy and sexual harassment.
She stressed on introducing “coding system’ in students’ examination papers for ensuring fairness in evaluation, strengthening the University Grants Commission (UGC) and students’ counselling in the universities.
“The education ministry is trying to modernise curriculums, ensuring transparency in the recruitment process of teachers, revising admission test process and rooting out question paper leakage,” said Dipu Moni.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel gave assurances to solve the prevailing problems of every public university under their respective legal framework.
He urged BCL leaders to raise their voices about student-centric problems and academic activities.
BCL President Shovon urged BCL leaders for attending classes regularly and keeping congenial atmosphere on the campuses.
BCL GS Golam Rabbani stressed on removing psychological barriers between the students and the teachers.
On behalf of the students of Dhaka University, DUCSU Assistant General Secretary Saddam Hussain called for providing education loan, formulating proper rules for evening courses, constructing academic and residential buildings after removing Babupura and Nilkhet police outposts and permanent solution to the problems of seven affiliated colleges under DU.
