Rain with lightning flashes likely over country

DHAKA, May 1, 2018 (BSS) – Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over the country having a chance of moderately heavy to heavy falls and hails at isolated places in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Mymensingh, Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with hails at isolated places over the country by 9 am tomorrow,” Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) told BSS here today.

Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is also likely to occur over the country during the period, he said.

The low over Andaman Sea and adjoining area persists. Trough of low lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining area, said a met office press release.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country by 9 am tomorrow, the release added.

The BMD office, in a warning message, said in association with rain or thundershowers with temporary westerly or northwesterly gusty or squally wind speeding 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, chattogram and Sylhet wherein river ports shall hoist cautionary signal number one by 6 pm today.

The maximum temperature was recorded 34.0 degrees celsius yesterday at Jashore in Khulna division and today’s minimum temperature 18.5 degrees celsius at Srimangal in Sylhet division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 77 mm at Srimangal in Sylhet division.

The sunsets at 6.27 pm today and rises at 5.24 am tomorrow in the capital city.
