President seeks Netherlands’ support to implement ‘Delta Plan-2100’

DHAKA, July 10, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today sought the cooperation of Netherlands to implement ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan (BDP)-2100′ as Dutch Queen Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti paid a courtesy call on him at the Bangabhaban here in the afternoon.

During the meeting, the President said Bangladesh wants to utilize the expertise of Netherlands to implement the BDP, especially the expertise of river training, President’ press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Welcoming Queen Maxima at the President palace, Abdul Hamid said the relations between Bangladesh and Netherlands are very excellent right now and hoped the tie strengthen in days to come.

Terming the forcibly displaced Rohingya people who have taken shelter inside Bangladesh territory a big burden, the President sought cooperation of the whole international community, including Netherlands, to ensure safe and dignified repatriation of the Myanmar nationals to their ancestral land.

The head of the state highlighted different socio-economic development and women empowerment in Bangladesh in last 10 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Queen Maxima, the honorary patron of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), lauded the incumbent government’s various development activities, specially the steps taken officially to prevent child marriage.

The Dutch Queen also highly appreciated the tremendous development of Bangladesh in ensuring women empowerment and the development in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Bangladesh in the recent time.

The Queen, who is on a four-day visit, arrived here yesterday noon to see different development activities and hold meetings with high officials mainly from Bangladesh financial sector.

Ambassador of Netherlands in Bangladesh Hendrikus G.J. (Harry) and UN Resident Coordinator to Bangladesh Mia Seppo, among others, accompanied the Queen at Bangabhaban.

President’s Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman and high officials of Bangabhaban and foreign ministry officials were present on the occasion.
