Workshop on early preparedness of flood held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 11, 2019 (BSS) – A day long workshop on early preparedness of flood was held at the conference room of SKS Foundation at
Radhakrishnapur, an outskirt of the district town on Wednesday afternoon.

Fulchhari upazila disaster management committee (UDMC) organized the
workshop under Disaster Reduction Management (DRM) project being implemented
by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with the financial and technical
support of Swiss Red Cross (SRC) in the upazila.

Presided over by upazila parishad chairman GM Selim Parvez, the workshop
was also addressed, among others, by UNO Abdul Halim Tolstoy, upazila vice
chairman Hukum Ali, female vice chairman Anju Monowara Begum Marry, upazila
agriculture officer M. Asaduzzaman, upazila livestock officer Dr. Abul Kalam
Shamsuddin, upazila primary education officer Kafil Uddin, upazila
cooperative officer Arab Ali, former commander of upazila Muktijoddha
Sangshad Habibur Rahman and Fulchhari union parishad chairman Abdul Gafur
Mondal.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for creating much
awareness to the people of disaster prone areas of the upazila about early
preparedness of floods in a bid to reduce risks of natural calamities.

They also put emphasis on addressing the flood properly and courageously
through avoiding huge losses of lives and properties in cordial and united
efforts of all the concerned and other stakeholders of the upazila.

Earlier, the bad and negative impacts of flood and doings at pre, during
and post period of flood as a member of the committee were elaborately
briefed by manager of SRC-DRM project, Dhaka Tuhin Samaddar.

Senior resilience manager of BDRCS Jasim Uddin Kabir said the organization
had been working relentlessly for the disaster affected people of the country
for long aimed at mitigating their sufferings caused by flood and other
catastrophes.

Apart from it, DRM project manager Golam Mostafa made a power point
presentation on the overall activities of the project and said the project
was being implemented at Gozaria, Fazlupur, Erendabari and Fulchhari unions
of the upazila since July, 2017.

Almost all the members of the UDMC participated in the workshop.
