SANGSAD BHABAN, July 10, 2019 (BSS) – Describing the last budget speech delivered by women reserved seat lawmaker from the Awami League Rushema Begum as reflective of true history of the Liberation War, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked all particularly the lawmakers to collect the speech.

‘Her (Rushema’s) last budget speech is a source of inspiration and one can know the true history of the Liberation War of 1971 and the declaration of the independence,’ she said while taking part in the discussion on the obituary reference adopted by the parliament on the death of Rushema.

The speech not only contained the true history of the Liberation War, but also reflected the rise of the womenfolk, she said.

Describing Rushema as a dedicated politician, the prime minister said she and her husband Imam Uddin, former president of Faridpur district unit of the Awami League, had dedicated their entire life for the welfare of the nation as well as for the people.

Rushema spread the light of education at a time when education for women was a difficult task, she said.

Recalling the contributions of Rushema to the Liberation War and the Language Movement, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Rushema worked in favour of the six-point demand with utmost dedication after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced it’.

Describing Rushema and her husband Imam Uddin as dedicated politicians, the premier said they worked for the party (Awami League) braving tortures and they never thought about their wellbeing.

‘Rushema was made a reserved seat lawmaker at the advice of Sheikh Rehana (younger daughter of Bangabandhu) when she (Rushema) met with me before the general election to discuss some measures to drum6 up support in favour of the Awami League and she never demanded anything from me,’ she said.

Awami League lawmakers Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmedd, Mohammad Nasim, Shahjahan Khan and Opposition Chief Whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga took part in the discussion on the obituary reference.
