Met office forecasts heavy rainfall till Wednesday morning

DHAKA, April 30, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the country in 48 hours as of 10.30 am on Wednesday as nor’wester is sweeping over the country.

“Under the influence of severe thunderstorm activity heavy(44mm-88 mm) to very heavy(>89mm) rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions during next 48 hrs commencing from 10.30 am today,” said a BMD office weather bulletin here.

Another weather bulletin said in association with rain or thundershowers with temporary Westerly or northwesterly Kalbaishaki squalls speeding 60-80 kph or more and lightning flashes likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali And Sylhet with hails at places during next 24 hours commencing from 10 am today.

The met office advised the river ports of the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet to hoist reverine warning signal number two and river ports of the reaming parts of the country to hoist cautionary signal number one as seasonal nor’wester is likely to hit the regions.

However, the met office also predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes over the country in 24 hours as 9 am tomorrow.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.0 degrees celsius yesterday at Satkhira in Khulna division and today’s minimum temperature 19.0 degrees celsius at Rangamati in Chattogram division.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 78 mm in the capital city that is supposed to be the highest rainfall of this season in the city.

The sunsets at 6.26 pm today and rises at 5.25 am tomorrow in the capital city.
