DHAKA, July 20, 2017 (BSS) – The newly set up ‘Folk Heritage Museum’ at Bangla Academy here would be inaugurated soon as all relevant activities to open the museum have already been completed.

The museum has been set up on the second floor of the Burdwan House at the Bangla Academy under its “Folk Heritage Museum Extension and Development at Burdwan House” project at cost of Taka one crore 58 lakh, Bangla Academy officials told BSS today.

More than 500 artifacts on folk arts, collected from across the country, are being exhibited at the museum now, they said.

All of the relics on rural culture of the country, installed in the museum, were collected from the country’s noted artistes, they added.

Bangla Academy Director General Samsuzzaman Khan said Cultural Affairs Ministry funded to set up the ‘Folk Heritage Museum’ and “It is now waiting to be inaugurated”.

“The people could witness the country’s traditional folk art through this museum,” he added.

Bangla Academy Director Shahida Khatun said Burdwan House is a historic building of the academy and it was transformed into a museum much earlier.

Earlier, ‘National Literature Writer Museum’ and ‘Language Movement Museum’ were set up in the building, she added.

A five-member committee, led by Bangla Academy Council Member writer Selina Hossain, helped in setting up the museum.
