Chhatra League won’t run at dictate of any syndicate: Quader

DHAKA, April 29, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader here today said that Bangladesh Chhatra League will not run at the dictate of any syndicate, who wants to influence in electing new leadership of student wing of AL.

“We want self-abnegating, eligible leaders who always follow the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Chhatra League’s committee will not be constructed consisting of the men of anyone’s pocket” he added.

The minister was addressing the annual council of Dhaka University (DU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium today as the chief guest.

Quader said that BCL has to run through the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and as per her daughter Sheikh Hasina’s order only.

“Chhatra League must come back to their political ideology, if it wants to survive. It has to return to its past glory of fame and tradition,” Quader urged to the BCL leaders.

While talking about the new leadership coming out through the BCL’s council, Quader said, “The activists who only want to be leader for money will flee in the crisis period accept the ideal leaders and activists.”

Quader urged BCL to pick courageous, brilliant, charismatic and virtuous leaders to form new committee. He asked BCL not to give spaces to parasites as new leaders.

“I never make any personal cadre. Do not pay any heed to any leader’s speech. Leaders should be elected without any gender discrimination,” he urged.

The 29th council of BCL will be held in the capital on May 11 and 12.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, will be present at the inaugural session of the two-day council in the afternoon on May 11, said Quader.

Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint secretary of Awami League, hoped that the new leadership of BCL will uphold the dignity of DU and lead Bangladesh in future.

A K M Enamul Haque, organizing secretary of the ruling party, said that DU is the most fertile unit of BCL and it have to play significant role in politics.

Saifur Rahman Sohag, president of BCL central committee, inaugurated the council. Later, he announced the order to dissolve the existing committee of DU BCL to form new leadership.

SM Jakir Hossain, general secretary of BCL, delivered the key note speech.

While presiding over the function, BCL DU unit president Abid Al Hasan said that DU BCL worked for the establishing students’ rights.

While conducting the programme, BCL DU unit general secretary Motahar Hossain Prince urged Quader to take steps abolish the evening programmes of DU which instable the campus as per general students’ demand.

BCL already held its councils for the two major units — Dhaka Metropolitan South and Dhaka Metropolitan North on April 24 (Tuesday) and April 26 (Thursday) respectively.

Bangladesh Chhatra League, the country’s oldest student organisation, began its journey on January 4, 1948, with the fundamentals of education, peace and progress.
