Digital literacy centre for cyber security on the way

DHAKA, April 29, 2018 (BSS) – The government has launched a development project to establish a digital literacy centre (DLC) to ensure cyber security in the government offices.

“The DLC is not only for securing online-based communication of the government offices, but also for training people and building awareness on cyber security,” a top official of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) told BSS.

The DLC is also assigned for open source data analysis to secure the virtual space, he added.

The BCC is entrusted with the implementation of the project involving Taka 116 crore. The establishment of the centre is scheduled to be completed by 2020.

The main job of the DLC is ensuring secured email communication for the government as well as collecting IT system hardware for security forces, cyber range, email security gateway, password vault and privilege accountant management system, server and storage.

According to the Development Project Proforma (DPP), four aspects have been prioritized in the Perspective Plan, and one of those is to turn the private sector and market into more productive and competitive through the usage of digital technology.

As part of this aspect, the government has to provide policy support to the private sector for the development activities.

Currently, different government offices and organisations are running various people-oriented e-initiatives and services such as multimedia class room in government school, mobile phone based health services in upazila health complex and union parishad information centres.
