DHAKA, July 03, 2019 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today underscored the need for expanding the local market of jute to bring back its golden glory.

“The local market of jute and jute products is very small. It is only one percent. We will have to expand the local market of the jute products,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration function of a five-day jute fair in the city, said a press release.

Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) has organised the fair at Karim Chamber at Motijheel in the city.

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi attended the function as the special guest while Secretary in-Charge of the Textiles and Jute Ministry Mohammed Belayet Hossain was in the chair.

Humayun said the government is giving special emphasis on creating new entrepreneurs for diversifying jute products.

“The government will allocate plots for the new entrepreneurs in difference areas, including Narsingdi Jute Mills and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) industrial cities,” he added.

Golam Dastagir Gazi said the local market for the diversified jute products is very big and the business community can grab the market easily.

“Entrepreneurs of the jute products will have to give attention to the local market. If they can increase their financial capability and experiences, opportunities of export will also increase,” he added.
