DHAKA, June 28, 2019 (BSS) – Globally prestigious Delhi based publisher Manohar has recently launched a book on Bengal numismatics with some new discoveries of some ancient coins of the region written by two Bangladeshi authors.
The book titled “Understanding the coins of Bengal: ancient to early modern period” has already been widely acclaimed by a number of critics of the subcontinent as there is a shortage of such book dealing Bengal Numismatics, a study of coinage identified as useful tool in understanding history and archaeology.
The book was jointly written by two Bangladeshi numismatists Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, a business administration professor of Rajshahi University and Md. Mosharrof Hossain, a journalist working at Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), both are also life members of Bangladesh Numismatic Collectors Society (BNCS).
“Though this work is not an attempt to document new information to the history of Bengal, a couple of new numismatic discoveries have been discussed in the volume,” Professor Islam told BSS today.
He said they used some diverse methods at the illustrated book to decode the coins that cover Magadha Janapada, Gupta dynasty, Pala era, Harikela and Akara kingdoms, Sultanate and Nawabs period as well as the early phase of the East India Company.
The book has already made available on global giant online based book retailers like amazon and flipkart.

BNCS founder president Amalendra Saha said the book would be much helpful for collectors of Bengal Coins to understand and decipher the coin easily.
