DHAKA, June 26, 2019 (BSS)-For the sake of the team, Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar is ready to bat any place like he did against Afghanistan in the side’s previous game.

Soumya was in good touch in the tri-nation in Ireland but looked to be in somewhat out of sort considering his recent form with the bat.

He has scored 3, 10, 29, 2, 25 and 42 in his six innings in the World Cup so far.

Soumya batted at No 5 against Afghanistan as the team management decided to send Liton Kumar Das to open with Tamim Iqbal to tackle the Afghanistan spin attack.

Soumya, who managed to score three off 10 deliveries and was adjudged leg-before wicket against off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, believes if batting down the order happens to fulfill the need of time he is okay with it.

“I always said, my first preference is the team. I will bat at any position where my team need me,” said Soumya.

”Even if I score one run in a different batting position, and if that benefits the team, I’d feel happy,” he said.

”So when the team asked me to bat a bit down against Afghanistan, I totally agreed for the sake of the team, and that is no problem with me,” he added.

The southpaw needs to score big in the remaining two matches as the Tigers require a strong opening partnership in the upcoming games to lay a good platformor as he is likely to return to the opening slot against India.

Soumya praised Shakib Al Hasan, adding, he is learning from the majestic all-rounder.

“Shakib bhai is playing superbly. It’s a big thing for players like us that we are sharing the dressing room with him,” said Soumya.

”He [Shakib] has broken many records for Bangladesh, and playing consistently well. Personally I have learnt a lot from Shakib bhai,” he said adding the win against Afghanistan is giving them confidence against India.

“We played good cricket in the last match. We won in dominant fashion, and it was important for us. We still have two games in hand. The two games are huge. We have one week in our hand, and a few days’ break. The way we have played in recent times, if we can stick to our game plan and put up our best effort, then definitely we can win these two matches,” concluded the left-hander.
