DHAKA, June 25, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh’s dependable batsman Mahmudullah Riyad is believed to sustain a grade 1 tear in his right calf muscle during the game against Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Monday.

He hobbled between the wickets for most of the duration of his 38-ball 27.

The batsman was injured while picking up a single and immediately physio Thian Chandramohan arrived at the scene to help him out during their game.

Chandramohan bandaged most part of his right leg before he padded up again to accompany Mushfiqur Rahim and added 56 valuable runs for Bangladesh.

However, Mahmudullah was seen struggling in the middle due to the cramp and later he did not field during Afghanistan’s innings, and underwent scans on his calf.

“The scan results showed a Grade-1 tear on Riyad’s right calf,” Khaled Mahmud, Bangladesh’s team manager told the reporters.

“At the moment, I believe so, I haven’t spoken to physio as of now and therefore I can’t tell how long it will take to recover completely.”

According to physician typically, grade 1 tears take seven to ten days to heal.

Bangladesh’s next game against India is on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, meaning he will get seven days ahead of the match. The team will play their final round-robin match, against Pakistan at Lord’s, is on July 5.
