Momen condoles train accident victims in Sylhet

DHAKA, June 24, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today expressed deep shock at the loss of lives at the train accident in Moulvibazar last night and called for operating extra flights from Dhaka to Sylhet as communication between Sylhet and the capital is halted.

In a message, Momen prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed deep sympathy to the members of bereaved families.

Besides, talking to newsmen at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this evening, he hoped that the communication between Dhaka and Sylhet will be restored soon.

Monen, who won last 11th parliamentary election from Sylhet 1 constituency, said he has requested the state minister for civil aviation and tourism to operate extra flights on Dhaka-Sylhet-Dhaka route.

“All steps have been taken to restore the communication between Dhaka and Sylhet,” he added.

Momen said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is closely monitoring the situation and directed all concerned to ensure proper treatment to the injured.

At least four people were killed and over one hundred injured as Upaban Express, heading for Dhaka from Sylhet last night, fell into a canal at Baramchal in Kulaura upazila.

Three bogies of the train veered off the tracks after a culvert over the Barochhara Canal, 200 yards off Baramchal Railway Station, broke down.
