Book-reading habit to become knowledgeable citizen stressed

RANGPUR, April 21, 2018 (BSS)- Government officials, academicians and literary personalities have called upon everyone for inspiring the young generation in building book-reading habit to become knowledgeable and wise citizen.

They made the call at an inaugural ceremony of the eight-day Rangpur Book Fair-2018, organised by Rangpur District Administration with assistance of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Jatiya Granthokendra, was held on the Public Library ground here yesterday.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed inaugurated the fair by releasing balloon as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Director of the Jatiya Granthokendra AKM Rezaul Karim, Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, literary personality Professor Shah Alam and Associate Professor of Begum Rokeya University Dr Tuhin Wadud, among others, spoke.

Convener of the fair implementation committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Abu Rafa Mohammad Arif delivered welcome speech narrating objectives of arranging the book fair.

Forty-five stalls have been set up by renowned book publishing houses of the capital city, district administration, Shishu Academy, local writers, poets, literary organisations and personalities in the fair.

The speakers thanked the district administration for arranging the book fair aimed at generating interests among the youngsters in reading, literary and cultural activities to enrich our cultural and literary heritage.

The chief guest said the contemporary generations should be encouraged to read more books for building knowledgeable future generation.

“The young generation can enlighten them through reading books as it always creates wise people enriching knowledge. Besides, book-reading entertains the readers with elation,” he said.

He also called upon the students and youngsters for presenting books to their friends, dearer and nearer ones on their different auspicious occasions.

The fair will remain open for all from 3 pm to 9 pm daily and discussions, recitation of poems and publication ceremonies of books written by new writers will be arranged in the afternoon followed by colourful cultural function.
