DHAKA, June 22, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today questioned the justifiability of BNP’s ability to wage movement, saying the BNP should demonstrate its capability and courage, in any, of releasing their leader Begum Khaleda Zia through launching movement.
“If you (BNP) have the ability to free Khaleda Zia through movement . . . Do it. But you couldn’t wage movement for even for 10 minutes in the last 10 years,” he told a press conference at the AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office here this afternoon.
Criticizing the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s threat to gear up street movement to restore democracy and free Begum Zia from the jail, the AL general secretary said they (BNP) are frequently issuing threats of waging movement but the party is unable to forge any movement.
Quader took the challenge of BNP’s street agitation’s threat and said, “To them (BNP) contention of democracy is full of self-contradictory and how would they trigger any movement?”
He said being elected as an MP, Mirza Fakhrul did not join the parliament but they (BNP) nominated a candidate for the vacant seat.
“Five MPs joined the incumbent parliament and MP for women reserved seats also took oath but the BNP secretary general didn’t join . . . What kind of democratic practice it is?” the AL minister questioned, terming it’s a farcical democratic norm and dual policy in BNP politics.
Referring to the upcoming BNP National council, Quader said BNP abolished section-7 from its party constitution proving that BNP is a party of self-confessed corrupt individual.
“BNP has been flourished as the party in the same way it was born,” the AL general secretary mentioned.
AL joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP, and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organizing secretaries – Ahmed Hossain, Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Enamul Hauq Shahmim, MP, and Khalid Mahmood Chowdhury, MP, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, MP, and relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, among others, were also present there.
