Court attaches DIG Mizan’s property

DHAKA, June 20, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today accepted a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to attach all the movable and immovable property of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman and freeze his bank accounts.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Qayes passed the order as ACC had filed the plea in apprehension of transfer or hand over of the DIG’s illegal property.

According to the ACC plea, a team of the anti-graft body led by its director Md Monjur Morshed had probed allegation of amassing illegal property by DIG Mizanur Rahman. They got to learn that since the launching of the investigation, the police officer was trying to sell or hand over his illegal property.

Of the property, which have been ordered attached, is a flat at Bailey Ritz Building and a plot in Kakrail. The court ordered freezing of Taka ten lakh which he deposited at the Dhanmandi City Bank branch account.

“We took part in the hearing on the matter on June 19 and today we have received the order,” the ACC’s lawyer said.

The court ordered Inspector General of Directorate of Registration, Registrar of Dhaka Registration Complex, Narayanganj District Registrar, Assistant Commissioners (Land) of Dhanmandi, Mohammadpur, Gulshan, Savar and Uttara to take steps so that Mizan cannot sell or hand over the said property,” ACC counsel Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told BSS.
