Construction of 162 godowns is underway: Majumder
SANGSAD BHABAN, June 20, 2019 (BSS) – Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said construction of 162 godowns with capacity of 1.05 lakh metric tonnes of food grain is under underway aiming to increase the storage capacity of food grains.
“A new food grain godown construction project with the capacity of 1.05 lakh metric tonnes is being implemented across the country,” he said while replaying a starred question placed by Jatiya Party lawmaker Salma Islam (Women Seat-44) in the Jatiya Sangsad here.
The food minister said construction of eight steel silos with the capacity of 5.18 metric tonnes continues in the country under a modern food grain storage project.
Besides, Majumder said, the government has planned to take a new project to build 200 silos with a capacity of 5000 metric tonnes each across the country to store paddy collecting from marginal farmers to help them to get fair price of the crop.
