SC stays former lawmaker Rana’s bail

DHAKA, June 20, 2019 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court
(SC) today stayed High Court order that granted bail to former Tangail-3
lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case lodged over killing of two leaders
of Jubo League till July 1.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman passed the
order following a state writ challenging yesterday’s order of the High Court.

“The Appellate Division Chamber Judge stayed the High Court bail order
till July 1 and sent the matter to apex court full bench for further hearing
on that day,” deputy attorney general Dr Bashir Ullah told newsmen.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice
SM Mozibur Rahman passed the bail order on June 19 after holding hearing on a
rule issued earlier in this regard.

Jubo League leaders Shamim and Mamun from Baghil union under Tangail Sadar
upazilla went missing after coming to Tangail town on July 16, 2012. Mamun’s
father filed a murder case in this connection on July 9, 2013.

Police in 2018 arrested three suspects Khandaker Jahid, SHahadat Hossain
and Hiron Miah from different areas of Tangail town in this regard and they
confessed their involvement in the killing of those two Jubo League leaders.

The name of Rana came in their confessional statement and police later
shown him arrested in the case.
