3,500 books donated to 25 schools in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 19, 2018 (BSS)- The Asia Foundation with assistance of Pubali Bank Limited (PBL) donated 3,500 Bangla and English language books worth Taka 44.25-lakh to 25 schools of the district here on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib distributed the books among the students and teachers of the schools in a book donation event held at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium, a press release said today.

The books were donated with a view to promote the importance of books and book reading habits among the students and school teachers of the district.

The Asia Foundation’s Country Representative in Bangladesh Ms Sara Taylor, RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, Assistant District Education Officer Roksana Begum, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of Begum Rokeya University Md Ferdous Rahman, Deputy General Manager of PBL at its Rangpur Zonal Office Md Kamruzzaman and Programme Manager of the Asia Foundation Ms Sukla Dey attended the event along with representatives and students from the schools.

Highly appreciating the book donation initiative of the Asia Foundation, the chief guest focused on promoting reading habits among the students and teachers and spreading education for girls and children of the underprivileged and rural communities.

The Asia Foundation donates thousands of new books annually to academic institutions, libraries, nonprofit and government offices across the country through its ‘Books for Asia Programme’, the release added.
