NETRAKONA, Jun 19, 2019 (BSS) – The government has embarks upon massive programs under a number of packages to make easy the communication of Netrakona district through development of road communication network.
Officials of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Netrakona, said under the packages programs, different upazilas connecting roads, downstream areas connecting submergible roads, borders connecting roads and a number of highways are being constructed and repaired.
The government has sanctioned a total of Taka 2, 173 crore for implementation of the package programs. Under the program, construction of a number of submergible roads in the haor areas are underway for connecting entire downstream areas with the district headquarters to facilitate haor people for using the submergible roads in the dry season.
Construction works of a submergible road between the haor areas of Khaliajury Upazila to the haor areas of Modan Upazila have been completed at a cost of Taka 104 crores, which is now being used for movements of motorized vehicles.
Chairman of Khaliajury upazila Kibria Jabbar told BSS that haor people of the district are happy for constructing the submergible road for the haor people.
RHD sources said the government has allocated Taka 458 crores for construction of a road connecting Netrakona district headquarters and Kendua upazila, Taka 310 crores for construction of a road connecting Netrakona and Kalmaknada Upazila, Taka 54 crore for construction of Netrakona and Purbadhala Upazila connecting road, Taka 257 crores for construction of a Netrakona town bypass road.
The government has also allocated Taka 261 crore for construction of a road in the border areas of Bangladesh and India for connecting Magalayan province of the neighboring state of India with the Bangladesh territory.
Construction work of a road connecting Shamganj Bazar to Durgapur Upazila in the district is nearing completion at a cost of Taka 316 crores which would play role in promoting tourism industry in the Durgapur area.
The repair works of Netrakona-Mymensing highway is going on in full-swing. The government sanctioned Taka 107 crore for repairing the highway, the executive engineer of RHD , Netrakona
Didarul Alam Torafder said adding that overall road communication network of the district would be improved remarkably after completion of the works.
State minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP, visited different on-going construction works of the roads in different areas of the district recently when he asked the concerned officials and engineers to monitor closely the quality of the work and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
