Delta Plan to help boost GDP growth by 1.5pc by 2030, Farooque tells JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 18, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources
Zaheed Farooque today told the Jatiya Sangsad that once the implementation
work of the Delta Plan- 2100 begins, the country’s GDP growth will increase
by 1.5 percent by 2030, apart from dealing with adverse impacts of climate
change.

“Under the Delta Plan, the government will implement 80 projects involving
Taka 2978 billion by 2030 by selecting six climate vulnerable ‘hotspots’
across the country,” he informed the House while replying a starred question
made by treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif.

As part of the delta plan, implementation of the first phase of a project
titled ‘Inland Small Rivers, Cannels and Lacks Re-excavation in 64 Districts’
began in December 2018 across the country, the state minister said.

Besides, a feasibility study is underway for taking the second phase of
the project that will include 65 projects for infrastructure and 15 for
increasing institutional capacity and skills and conducting research, he
informed.
