DHAKA, April 17, 2018 (BSS) – Police today denied the claim of three quota reform activists’ that they were blindfolded while being taken to Detective Branch (DB) office yesterday, saying “It was a misunderstanding”.

“It’s a misunderstanding that they (quota reform activists) were taken blindfolded to DB office. There was no intention to assault or humiliate them as there were no direct allegations against them,” Joint Commissioner of DB Abdul Baten told a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Centre office at Mintoo Road here.

“They (quota reform activists’) sought withdrawal of the cases (filed with Shahbagh Police Station for attacking on DU VC’s residence) which has no relation to bring them to DB office,” he said, adding, “This is not true and they can explain what they said.”

“We have no stand on the movement. We are investigating into the attack on the residence of Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.”

“More than one student has been summoned to DB office several times since we cannot identify the attackers after watching the available video footages. But we thought that the students who live in the halls or around the university would be able to identify them,” he said.

Baten also claimed that significant progress has been made in investigation into the attack on the residence of DU VC.

The press briefing was held to inform media about unearthing a fake visa producing factory and capturing four people to this end from Uttara in the city.
