Nearly 1.5 lakh children to be fed vitamin-A plus capsules in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, June 16, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 1,52,809 children aged
between six to 59 months will be fed vitamin-A Plus capsules on June 22 to
prevent childhood blindness and reduce child mortality.

Under the campaign, children aged between six to 11 months will be given
blue-coloured capsules, while red-coloured capsules will be administered to
children aged between 12 to 59 months.

“The campaign will start at 8am and continue till 4pm. As many as 1,077
centres would be set up at five upazilas in the district on the day,” Civil
Surgeon of Panchagarh Hospital Dr Mohammad Nizam Uddin told BSS today.

Alongside health workers, 2,154 volunteers will perform their duties to
make the campaign a success, he added.

Heath experts said that blindness problem was significantly reduced in the
country through launching vitamin A plus campaign, they said less than one
percent children now suffers from blindness while the percentage of blindness
for vitamin-A deficiency was 3.74 in 1974.
