UKBCCI keen to explore opportunities in ICT, garments sectors

DHAKA, June 16, 2019 (BSS) – The UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) today expressed keenness to explore opportunities in different sectors, including ICT, garments, infrastructure and engineering in Bangladesh.

The trade body expressed its keenness in separate meetings with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Industries Minister Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun in their respective ministries in the city, according to official releases.

In the meeting with the UKBCCI delegation, Tipu Munshi expressed deep satisfaction at the noble venture of the UKBCCI and reaffirmed all-out help and cooperation from the government to the prospective trade body.

Commerce Secretary M Mafizul Islam moderated the discussion while Vice Chairman and CEO of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Bijoy Bhattacharjee, UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed and UKBCCI President Bajloor Rashid were present.

UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed thanked the minister and said they are willing to explore opportunities in ICT, garments and other manufacturing, infrastructure, engineering, construction, logistics, banking, tourism, financial services and many other consumer sectors with the view to enhance living standard of the people and bring prosperity to all.

Later, the UKBCCI team met Industries Minister Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun at his office.

During the meeting, Humayun urged the British Bangladeshi origin entrepreneurs to invest in the country’s tannery sector.

“Raw materials for tannery industries in the country are available. If anyone wants to establish tannery industry, there will be no need to import raw materials,” he said.

Among others, Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Begum Parag, Director of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) AKM Fazlul Hoq and UKBCCI President Bajloor Rashid were present.

The team will be in Dhaka till 18 June and then will visit Chittagong on June 19 and Sylhet on June 20.
