SANGSAD BHABAN, June 16, 2019 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Co- operatives Minister MdTazul Islam today told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that about 13.92 crore people, 87 percent of the country’s total population, are getting safe water now.
The minister was replying a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) in the House here.
Besides, he informed the House, 99 percent of the total population has come under the fundamental sanitation. Of them, 61 percent uses sanitary latrines, 28 percent uses joint latrines and remaining 10 percent uses insanitary latrines.
According to the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) Report-2015 of World Health Organization/UNICEF, the number of sanitary latrine beneficiaries is 9.76 crore in the country.
