‘Livestock management training crucial to women empowerment’

RAJSHAHI, April 17, 2018 (BSS)-Veterinary scientists and researchers at a discussion here mentioned that imparting livestock management training to women can be the vital means of intensifying women empowerment side by side with boosting the livestock sector.

They viewed if the rural women were imparted training on livestock they will be capable of providing necessary services like production, primary treatment, deforming, vaccination and farm management.

The contribution of the livestock sector is immense in terms of eradicating the existing protein deficiency and socio economic development and there is no alternative to elevate the sector.

The observation came at the inaugural session of a fortnight livestock treatment and farm management training course on Narkelbaria campus of Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday.

Feed the Future Livestock Production for Improved Nutrition, ACDI-VOCA organized the training in association with Women Empowerment through Livestock Training Project.

Some 25 rural women are taking part in the course being conducted by the teachers of Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of RU as resource persons.

RU Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha addressed the opening session as chief guest with Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder, director of the project and a teacher of the same department.

Dean of Agriculture Faculty Prof Saiful Islam, Prof Md Khalequzzaman of Department of Zoology, Assistant Director of Department of Livestock Services Dr Humayun Kabir, Acting Team Leader of ACDI-VOCA Dr Abdus Salam and its gender adviser Ayesha Akter also spoke.
