New budget would expedite socio-economic development: Quader

DHAKA, June 15, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the proposed budget for 2019-20 (FY20) fiscal would expedite the country’s socio-economic development and economic growth.

“The proposed budget is the budget for the welfare of the country’s people and it will further strengthen the sustainable economy,” he said at press conference at the AL president’s political office in city’s Dhanmondi.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday placed Taka 5,23,190-crore national budget for FY20 in parliament to ‘make a big stride’ to materialize the Vision 2021 and implement the agenda for 2030.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the proposed budget is realistic, balanced, pro-people and consistent with the AL’s election manifesto.

The AL leader opined the proposed budget is a roadmap of the nation’s journey towards the middle-income country by 2021 as well as to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to turn the country into ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Terming the budget as time-befitting, Quader said the government is working relentlessly to implement the plans maintaining the continuity and in line with the Delta Plan.

He said a work plan has been taken to bring the private sector under the pension skim and proposed to give incentives on the remittance of expatriates.

Terming the budget a humanitarian one, the minister said it has proposed to give allowances to the people with disabilities.

Besides, he said, the budget has allocation for the youths for creating employment opportunities as well as entrepreneurs.

Regarding a comment of BNP, Quader said they (BNP) are falsifying and spreading propaganda. But they have no realization about the extent of the budget given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said the Awami League government has given 11 budgets after assuming power in 2011. And now the economy of the country stands on a strong footing, he added.

AL Joint General Secretary and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil and Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, among others, were present in the press conference.
