Govt sets up example in establishing Islami values: Speaker

RANGPUR, April 16, 2018 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury here today evening said the present government has set up a glaring example of establishing Islamic values in the society.

“The Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh (IFB), founded by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has expanded its network all over the country and is working relentlessly for welfare of the Alem-Ulamas,” she said.

The Speaker said this at a function on “Role of ‘Alem-Ulamas’ in eliminating terrorism and militancy, preventing drug abuse, dowry, women repression, child trafficking and child marriage and training of teachers under the Child and Mass Education Project” at Tukuria union parishad premises under Pirganj upazila as chief guest.

Earlier, on her arrival at the union parishad premises, the Speaker formally inaugurated the newly-built building of Darul Arkam Ebtedayee Madrasha constructed there by IFB by unveiling plaque.

She also distributed sewing machines and cash money from Zakat Fund among the poor for purchasing goats and education inputs among students and handed over appointment letters to newly appointed teachers of ten Qur’an Education Centres on the occasion.

Director General of IFB Shamim Mohammed Afzal addressed the function as special guest.

With Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair, Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director of IFB Abul Kalam Azad delivered welcome speech on the occasion.

The Speaker said the Alem-Ulamas are the most respected personalities and playing vital role in eliminating militancy and terrorism and preventing social curses and superstitions for building a peaceful society to accelerate development.

She also called upon the Alem-Ulamas for preaching the real meaning of Islam, the religion of peace, so that the vested quarters could not mislead common people through misinterpretation of Islam.

“The present government has taken a massive programme for establishing 1,010 independent Ebtedayee Madrashas and 560 model mosques in the country,” she said.

Dr Chaudhury also called upon the Alem-Ulamas to create social awareness about bad consequences of drug abuse, dowry, women repression, child trafficking and child marriage for building a healthier society.

Narrating the massive development works already completed in Pirganj upazila, she said the whole upazila has been brought under total electricity coverage and many other development projects are in progress.

Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, Senior Vice-president of district Awami League (AL) Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Azizul Islam Ranga, its General Secretary and Mayor of Pirganj Tazimul Islam Shamim, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamal Kumar Ghosh, President of district Chhatra League Mehedee Hassan Rony, Tukuria union Chairman Ataur Rahman Mandal, were present.
