Tk 1,621cr proposed for foreign affairs

DHAKA, June 13, 2019 (BSS) – An allocation of Taka 1,621 crore has been
made in the budget proposed for 2019-20 fiscal for Foreign Affairs Ministry
to mainly mitigate expenditures of Bangladesh missions abroad.

The allocation in the proposed budget is Taka 219 crore more than the
revised budget of 2018-19 fiscal that was Taka 1,402 crore. The proposed
budget of the fiscal 2018-19 for foreign affairs ministry was Taka 1,250
crore.

Of the total Taka 1,621 crore, Taka 121 crore will be spent under the
Annual Development Programme (ADP) and Taka 1,499 crore under non-development
sector.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the announcement while placing the
budget for the new financial year before the Jatiya Sangsad today.

At his speech, the finance minister mentioned the issue regarding Rohingya
crisis and said the displaced Rohingyas, who escaped from Myanmar to save
their lives from torture, oppression and ethnic cleansing, have been given
shelter in Bangladesh as a humanitarian gesture.

“Following the directions of Honourable Prime Minister, bilateral
discussions have been continuing to ensure safe, dignified and permanent
repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to their homeland,” he said.

Bangladesh has been providing all necessary physical support services,
including food, housing, health and other emergency services, to over 1.1
million Rohingyas, Kamal said.

“Bangladesh has been efficiently doing massive work of providing health
and other emergency services including provisioning of residential
facilities, supply of drinking water, installation of sanitary latrines and
building roads for Rohingya population,” he added.
