DHAKA, April 15, 2018 (BSS)-Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said today that keeping militants and fundamentalists away from political power does not lead to a paucity in democracy, rather the system turns better.
He was speaking to a delegation of foreign journalists, who called on him, at his office.
The minister said the turning point in the country’s current economic development that helped Bangladesh graduate from a Least Developing Country (LDC) to a developing one was the economic policies of Sheikh Hasina and the country’s strong foundation based on the four fundamental state principles.
“The biggest challenges to this amazing development were the communal forces, Khaleda Zia and the BNP clique. The government’s firm position vis- …-vis militancy overcame the challenges,” Inu said.
“It’s true that if these unwarranted forces were not there development would have been faster,” he said.
The minister took this opportunity to brief the journalists about the political history of Bangladesh including the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by some misled military clique in 1975 and the pampering of the criminals by the succeeding military-autocratic governments. “Sheikh Hasina’s government has restored the rule of law,” he added.
The minister also explained the sustainable development and women’s empowerment policies and the successful implementation of information and communication technology to transform Bangladesh digitally.
Journalists from Canada, Germany, France, Ethiopia, Brazil, India and Thailand are here on a “Visit Bangladesh” programme of the foreign ministry that started from April 14 and will end on April 19.
Senior officials of the information and foreign ministries were present on the occasion.
