Road accidents kill 5 in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, June 7, 2019 (BSS) – Five people, including three Rohingyas, were killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in the district today.

In Teknaf, three Rohingyas were killed and 15 others injured as a pick-up van skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Noakhali area around 1.300pm, Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Thana Prodip Kumar Das said.

The Rohingyas were identified as Nur Mohammod, Md Edris and Md Jobair.

The Rohingya people were enjoying eid boarded on the pickup on the road. They died on the spot, he added.

The 15 injured people were admitted to Teknaf and Cox’s Bazaar hospitals. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Besides, two people including a woman were killed and five others injured as a bus collided head-on with a microbus on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazaar Road in Chakoria upazila this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Rowshon Ara Begum, 45, hailed from Uttar Fulchari area of the upazila and Sanak Pal, 26, from Dulahazara area.

Highway police said Rowshon Ara died on the spot while Sanak Pal succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
