DHAKA, April 11, 2018 (BSS) – The Ministry of Shipping has taken an initiative to recognise individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions to the recovery of illegally occupied riverbanks and checking water pollution.
The decision of award introduction was taken at a meeting held at the ministry’s conference room today.
The meeting has taken the decision aimed at encouraging people to raise their voice against river grabbers and the people involved in polluting the rivers, and getting assistances from them as well as different organisations, which are working on this field.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan yesterday warned that stern action would be taken against the people involved in grabbing and polluting the country’s rivers.
The National River Protection Committee of the government has been entrusted with taking necessary measures to this end, an official release said.
Chaired by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Shipping secretary Md Abdus Samad and chairman of the National River Protection Committee Dr Mujibur Rahman were, among others, present at the meeting.
