6,343 tonnes of VGF rice distributed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, June 03, 2019 (BSS) – The government completed distribution of
6,343 tonnes rice today among over 4.22-lakh poor families under the special
Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to assist them in celebrating the
Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.

“Each of the selected card-holder family got 15 kg VGF rice amid strict
supervision of the district administration under the programme,” District
Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) ATM Akhteruzzaman told BSS today.

Earlier, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the rice
for distribution among four lakh 22 thousand and 915 poor and distressed
families of 77 unions in all eight upazilas and three municipalities of the
district.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local union parishads,
public representatives and union level committees prepared lists of
beneficiary families and distributed cards among them before distribution of
the VGF rice.

Under the programme, 402.97 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among
26,865 card holder families in Sadar upazila, 1,336.51 tonnes among 89,101
families in Mithapukur, 1,016.25 tonnes among 67,750 families in Pirganj and
820.54 tonnes among 54,703 families in Pirgachha upazilas.

Besides, 672.80 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among 44,854 families
in Kawnia, 758.37 tonnes among 50,558 families in Gangachara, 834.36 tone
among 55,624 families in Badarganj and 409.48 tonnes among 27,299 families in
Taraganj upazilas.

In addition to this, 46.21 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among 3,081
poor families in Badarganj municipality and 23.10 tonnes of rice among 1,540
families each in Haragachh and Pirganj municipalities.

Talking to BSS, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Sadar
upazila today said he completed distribution of allocated 79 tonnes and five
kg VGF rice among 5,267 card holder poor families with assistance of the
authorities concerned last night.

Talking to BSS on Chandanpat union parisahd premises, beneficiaries Osheda
Begum, Abdus Sattar, Abdul Mazid and physically challenged Rashedul Islam of
Ward No-6 of the union expressed gratitude to the government after getting 15
kg VGF rice each.

Chairman of Haridebpur union parisahd in Sadar upazila Iqbal Hossain today
said he completed distribution of 88 tonnes and 320 kg allocated VGF rice
among 5,888 card-holder beneficiary families of his union last night.

After getting special 15 kg VGF rice each before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr
festivity, beneficiaries of different wards of Haridebpur union Aklima Begum,
Azahar Ali and Morsheda expressed their pleasure and thanked the government.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib said adequate steps were taken to distribute
the allocated VGF rice among card holder families maintaining complete
transparency and accountability to assist them in celebrating the upcoming
Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
