Biman awards hijack attempt aircraft crews

DHAKA, May 26, 2019 (BSS)- Biman Bangladesh Airlines today awarded its pilot and crews of the aircraft that was reportedly exposed to a hijack threat on February 24 last at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.

The national flag carrier honoured the pilots and crews for their courage and intelligence during hijack attempt at a ceremony at the airlines headquarters at Balaka here.

Besides the crews, Biman’s two other IT employees were also awarded for their courageous act on fire extinguishing at the Biman’s headquarters data center.

Biman’s managing director and CEO captain Farhat Hasan Jamil distributed the award and crest as the chief guest at Biman’s headquarters, said a Biman press release.

The Dubai-bound Boeing 737-800 aircraft made an emergency landing at the Chattogram airport at 5.41pm on February 24 after a youth allegedly attempted to hijack the plane.

The pilots and crews had tackled the situation with bravery and intelligent while the alleged hijacker was killed later in an 8-minute operation by law enforcing agencies.

The awardees are, Captain Md Golam Shafi, First officer Muntasir Mahbub, Parser Shafika Nasim Nimmi, Junior Parser Hosne Ara, Flight stewardess Sharifa Begum Ruma, and Flight Steward Saheduzzaman Sagar, Md Abdus Sakur Mozahid, Assistant system administrator Tapu Barua and Senior data processing assistant Zahirul Alam Chowdhury.
