DHAKA, May 26, 2019 (BSS) – International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecutor
Dr Tureen Afroz said her new book “Trials of 1971 Bangladesh Genocide:
Through a Legal Lens” will be able to draw international attention towards
one of the most barbaric crimes of human history.

“Bangladesh is yet to get international recognition for the genocide where
three million people have been killed and five lakh women were violated.
Around 10 million people were deported from their households. My book, which
was written in English, is expected to get international sympathy towards the
victims of that genocide,” she told BSS.

Tureen, better known for her legal battles in the crimes against humanity
cases against notorious war criminals like Ghulam Azam, Salauddin Qader
Chowdhury, Matiur Rahman Nizami and Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, said the book has
six chapters, narrating background of Bangladesh genocide, activities of
International Crimes Tribunal, ICT Act, description of cases and findings in
her research in phases.

There are propagandas against the International Crimes Tribunal from the
very start and I tried to answer the critics, who were coming against the
court all guns blazing, through my legal arguments, research and findings in
the book, the lawyer, who has experience in working at attorney general
office in Australia’s New South Wales state, said.

Apart from her legal profession, Tureen is also working as a teacher at
different foreign and local colleges for last 19 years. She has worked with
Western Sydney University and Monash University in Australia and BRAC
University and East West University here in Bangladesh.
