Nine submit nomination papers for Bogura-6 by-polls

BOGURA, May 23, 2019 (BSS) – A total of nine candidates have submitted nomination papers to contest the Bogura-6 by-polls slated for June 24.

One candidate from ruling Awami League, three from BNP, one each from Jatiya Party, Bangladesh Congress and Muslim League and two independent contenders filed their nomination papers to the returning officer today.

The by-polls will be held from 9am to 5pm on June 24 while electronic voting machine (EVM) will be used in voting.

The constituency fell vacant as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who won the seat in the December 30, 2018 national election, did not take oath as a member of parliament within the stipulated 90 days from the date of the first meeting of parliament.

Awami League nominee party’s district unit joint general secretary T Zaman Niketa submitted nomination papers while BNP nominees former lawmaker Golam Mohammed Siraj, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s adviser Advocate Mahbubur Rahman and district unit of BNP former president Rezaul Karim Badshan submitted their nomination forms.

Jatiya Party nominee Nurul Islam Omar, Bangladesh Congress candidate Dr Mansur Rahman, Muslim League nominee Mufti Rafiqul Islam, independent candidates Syed Kabir Ahmed Mithu and Md Minhaz submitted their nomination papers.
