KHULNA, May 23, 2019 (BSS) – The government has set a target to procure 1,913 tonnes of paddy directly from 3,500 farmers in Khulna.
The Department of Food Office in Khulna (DFO) has set the target after collecting information about paddy production and numbers of farmers, sources said.
Deputy Director of DAE in Khulna Pankoj Kanti Mojumder told BSS that they send a list to the DFO after preparing a list of 3,502 farmers.
Talking to BSS, Khulna District Food Controller (Dc Food) Tanveer Rahman said that we have sent the farmers list to the paddy procurement committee of all upazila.
The committee has been asked to procure paddy directly from farmers have agriculture card of DAE, he said, adding that paddy procurement program was launched by the deputy commissioner of Khulna on Monday.
The deputy commissioner purchased a total of 132 metric tonnes of paddy from around 200 farmers of four unions at the price determined by the government this year. Procurement of paddy and rice directly from farmers would continue till August 28, 2019.
