BGB-BSF stress on conducting joint patrols on borders

RANGPUR, May 23, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a battalion commander level flag meeting has stressed on conducting joint patrols on common borders to curb cross-border crimes.

“Initiated by the BSF side, the meeting was held today (Thursday) opposite to Burimari ICP outpost inside India near boundary pillar No- 842/2S in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat under jurisdiction of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion,” said a press release.

The hour-long flag meeting was held among officials of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion, 148 Jalpaiguri BSF Battalion and 140 Falakata BSF Battalion from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in a very congenial and cooperative atmosphere.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion Lt. Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam led the nine-member BGB delegation.

Commandant of 148 Jalpaiguri BSF Battalion Banambar Sahoo led his six-member BSF delegation and Commandant of 140 Falakata BSF Battalion SH Rakesh Kumar led his another six-member BSF delegation in the event.

In the meeting, the BGB and BSF officials discussed issues like conducting regular joint patrols, firing on frontier areas, exchange of information, drug trafficking, smuggling of cows and identification of smuggling routes to prevent all sorts of cross-border crimes.

Both sides agreed to conduct regular joint patrols on common borders in curbing cross-border crimes, illegal intrusion of criminals, smuggling and trafficking of drugs, arms, explosives and ammunition and other issues of common bilateral interests.

Talking to BSS after the flag meeting over cell phone this afternoon, Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam said the meeting was held in a very friendly, cooperative and cordial atmosphere between the two neighbouring border guards.

Earlier, Commandant of 148 Jalpaiguri BSF Battalion Sahoo and Commandant of 140 Falakata BSF Battalion Rakesh Kumar welcomed their counterpart Lt Colonel Islam on arrival of the BGB delegation on the zero line of the border inside India.
