Cabinet committee okays 3 purchase proposals

DHAKA, May 22, 2019 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase today approved three proposals including one for constructing a 645.015-meter-long Sonahat Bridge over Dudhkumar river in Kurigram district.

The purchase proposal of Taka 136.34 crore for the construction of the bridge at the 6th kilometer of Bhurungamari-Sonahat Landport-Motherganj-Bhitorbondh-Nageshwari Road in Kurigram was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Kamal said once the bridge is completed, the operations at the Sonahat Landport would get a boost and the area would be developed further.

He said the meeting approved another purchase proposal of Taka 105 crore for setting up a 3.77 MW solar power plant at Bera in Pabna under a joint venture of Mostafa Motors Ltd and Solarland (Wuxi) Electric Science and Technology Co Ltd (Soudia Agro Solar PV Power Plant).

Kamal said the government would purchase power from the producers of the solar power plant at Taka 8.59 per kilowatt.

He said that the joint venture company would have to supply power uninterruptedly to the national grid for a period of 20 years, adding that if the plant remains idle, the government would not have to pay for that period.

As per the other proposal, the Ministry of Food would purchase some one crore pieces of hessian sacks each having 30 kg retention capacity from the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation under the direct purchase method with an expenditure of Taka 54 crore.

Earlier, the Finance Minister chaired a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at the same venue.

The meeting gave final approval to the PPP contract document for the ‘Development of water distribution and supply facilities at Purbachal New Town through Public Private Partnership’ under which surface water plant would be set up to facilitate establishment of the Purbachal new town.

The meeting also gave approval in principle to a proposal for signing the joint venture agreement between BEZA and Sumitomo Corporation for setting up the Araihazar Economic Zone in Narayanganj for the Japanese investors.
