Rab arrests 4 recovering disappeared lawyer’s body in Rangpur

 RANGPUR, April 4, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) overnight recovered the body of disappeared lawyer and cultural activist and arrested four people including his wife suspecting their link to his murder.

“As per confession of the arrested persons, the elite force recovered body of missing Advocate Bhowmick from an under construction building premises in Tazhat Mollapara area of the city last night,” Director General (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed told a crowed press briefing arranged at RAB-13 battalion headquarters here this noon.

The arrested persons are Snigdha Sarker Dipa (wife of Advocate Bhowmick) of Station Babu Para area, Kamrul Master, Sabuz Islam and Rokunuzzaman of Tazhat Mollapara area in the city.

Dipa and Kamrul are teachers of Tazhat High School here and Sabuz and Rokunuzzaman their students.

Quoting primary investigation reports, the RAB Chief said that Snigdha Sarker Dipa and Kamrul Master had extramarital relations and they planned to kill Advocate Bhowmick two months ago.

“Dipa and Kamrul killed Bhowmick at his Station Babu Para residence at night on March 29 last and buried the body in association with their students Sabuz and Rokunuzzaman at the under construction building premises on the next day morning,” he said.

“The arrested persons would be handed over to Kotwali Thana Police today for elaborate investigation into the incident,” Benazir Ahmed said.

Thanking the law enforcement agencies for engaging their sincere efforts in bringing an end to the Advocate Bhowmick missing incident, the RAB DG said, “We will now bring all criminals involved with murdering Bhowmick under law of the land.”

Advocate Bhowmick was the Special Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Special Judge Court of Rangpur, President of district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisahd, Trustee of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, an witness of the war crimes case against Joint Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh ATM Azharul Islam, Law Affairs Secretary of district Awami League (AL), General Secretary of district unit of Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Joint General Secretary of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity, leader of Rangpur unit of Ghatok-Dalal Nirmul Committee and member of many other sociocultural organisations.

Advocate Bhowmick stood for the state during hearings of the sensational Japanese national Kunio Hoshi murder case and Khadem of a ‘Mazar’ Rahamat Ali murder case as the Special PP in the Special Judge Court of Rangpur.

In the recently announced verdicts of both cases, the Special Judge Court sentenced a total of eight militants belonging to the outlawed militant organisation Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB).

Earlier, Shushanto Bhowmick, younger brother of Advocate Bhowmick, filed a case in connection with missing of the lawyer under sections 164 and 34 with Kotwali Thana on April 1 last.
