Programmes taken to celebrate ‘Pahela Boishakh’ in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 3, 2018 (BSS) – The district administration at a meeting here today chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to celebrate “Pahela Boishakh”, the first day of the Bangla New Year- 1425, amid traditional festivities on April 14 next.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib presided over the meeting held at his conference room in the city.

Heads of different government departments, organisations and educational institutions, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, leaders of different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations, civil society members and local elite participated in the meeting.

Acting President of District Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Zila Parisahd Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam, President of Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr Delwar Hossain, Chairman of Sonic Prime Group Professor Dr Akkas Ali Sarker, former General Secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, noted cultural personalities Monwar Hossain and Professor Shah Alam, among others, addressed.

The meeting decided that the celebrations will begin in the morning through traditional “Boishakhi” programmes to be performed simultaneously by artists of Shishu Academy and Shilpokola Academy on the Banyan Tree premises on Zila School ground and Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city.

The district and police administrations, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), different law enforcement agencies and other organisations will ensure adequate security measures to welcome the “Pahela Boishakh” in a peaceful atmosphere.

Different government, non-government, socio-cultural, professional and business organisations, educational institutions, will welcome “Bangla Nababarsha” with traditional festivities, fanfare and cultural heritage.

The district administration will bring out the main ‘Boishakhi’ procession of ‘Mongal Shobhajatra’ carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing ‘Boishakhi’ and folk songs from Zila School. The procession will again return there after parading the main city streets.

Tens of hundreds of people of all ages, wearing traditional dresses and singing `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’ will participate in procession.

The celebration of ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’, the last day of the outgoing year, will begin from April 13 next in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places through arranging ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts clearing previous dues.

The traditional ‘Boishakhi Mela’, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll-dances, ‘Nagor Dola’, ‘Ha-Du-Du’, traditional ‘Lathi Khela’, kite flying competitions and discussions will be arranged at the district and upazila levels and rural areas to welcome the event.

Improved diets will be served by the authorities concerned to the inmates of all hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, orphanages, shishu paribars and vagabond centres in the district.

The meeting also decided that nobody could wear masks while taking part in the daylong ‘Boisahkhi’ programmes and the celebrations will end before the sunset.

The district administration will organise the main discussion on the Central Shaheed Minar premises with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the afternoon.
