BARI develops modern varieties of 207 crops

JAMALPUR, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI)
has so far developed modern varieties of 207 crops.

Director (Research), Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI),
Gazipur, Dr Md Abdul Wahab said this while inaugurating a three-days regional
workshop at Rural Agriculture Research Station (RARS) here today.

Dr Wahab said BARI is also developing modern varieties and management practices of the crops including horticultural crops, cereals, pulses, oilseeds, tuber crops and other technologies such as postharvest processing, seed technology and biotechnology.

BARI is working for increasing cropping intensity and productivity through proper utilisation of soil and water for socio-economic development of the farmers, he said.

Dr Wahab emphasized on research-extension workshop for increasing safe food production across the country.

A total of 65 officers of various government and non-government research institutes working in Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrokona and Mymenshingh district are taking part in the workshop.

The workshop will conclude on May 22.
