Shakib unlikely to feature in the tri-series final

DHAKA, May 16, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s
availability in the tri-series final against West Indies on Friday is
uncertain as the team management will further assess his condition on Friday
morning.

The decision came after team physio Thihan Chandramohan assessed his
condition on Thursday afternoon.

“Shakib sustained a left sided back muscle spasm injury while batting
during the match against Ireland yesterday. He is undergoing assessment and
treatment and we will make a decision regarding his availability for
tomorrow’s tri-series final in the morning of the match day,” Chandramohan
said in a statement sent by BCB through whatsapp message.

Shakib did not practice with the side ahead of the final on Thursday. The
ace all-rounder has been in good form with willow, hitting two half-centuries
in the tournament. He was also economical with bowling.

The premier all-rounder of Bangladesh has dealt with multiple finger
injuries in recent times, the one last September nearly derailing his career
as the finger contracted an infection. Shakib then broke his finger during
the BPL final in February, which forced him to miss the New Zealand tour.
