Khulna Shipyard to build Hilsha research ship for BFRI

DHAKA, May 13, 2019 (BSS)-Khulna Shipyard (KS) will build a Hilsha
research and survey ship for Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI)
at a cost of Taka 8 crore.

The research and survey ship will have modern facilities, including fish
finder, eco sounder, navigation and modern telecommunication system, Hilsha
research laboratory, netting system and portable hatchery.

As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed here today between the
KS and BFRI, KS will hand over the ship to BFRI within the next two years,
said a handout.

With an aim to strengthen Hilsha Research in Riverine Station, Chandpur
project director Abul Bashar and KS managing director Anisur Rahman Molla
signed the MoU in presence of state minister for fisheries Ashraf Ali Khan
Khasru.

The ship will help to boost surveillance on Hilsha breeding and changing
the route of Hilsha movement in rivers and sea-mouth, Hilsha productivity and
life cycle of Hilsha.

Secretary of fisheries ministry Md Raisul Alam Mondal, Fisheries
Development Corporation chairman Dildar Ahmed, BFRI director general Dr Yahia
Mahmud, directorate of Fisheries Department Abu Sayeed Md Rashedeul Haque,
among others, were present.
