Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

DHAKA, May 13, 2019 (BSS) – Stock markets today closed of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were textile, bank and insurance. A total of 155 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 26.10 points down at 5,247.83. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 8.65 points down at 1,210.37 and with 10.08 points down at 1,836.40.

The daily trade fell to 10.45 crore shares from Sunday’s 12.69 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 305.03 crore from Taka 358.16 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 343 securities, prices of 87 securities closed higher against 211 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were ECABLES, Green Delta, EBL1STMF, Standard Bank and ICB3RDNRB. The major losing companies were VAMLBDMF1, CNATEX, City Bank, MERCINS and NFML.

Fortune topped the turnover list followed by OIMEX, ESQUIRENIT, Desco and IBP.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 118.54 points down at 16,055.36.

At CSE, 220 issues were traded. Of those, 54 closed higher and 147 closed lower when 68.42 lakh shares worth Taka 15.85 crore changed hands.
