One gets 10-year jail for gold smuggling
DHAKA, May 13, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced one Habibur
Rahman, 26, to 10-year imprisonment in a case lodged over gold smuggling.
Dhaka 3rd additional metropolitan session judge Robiul Alam passed the
order in presence of the accused. The court also fined him Taka 10 thousand.
According to the case documents, Habibur was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport with 35 gold bars weighing 3.5 kg on February 13, 2017.
A case was filed against him with Airport Police Station in this regard
and police on April 17 on that year filed charge sheet against him.
Court on July 24, 2017, framed charges against Habibur Rahman and today
came up with the judgement after examining seven out of 13 prosecution
witnesses in the case.
