Next general election to be held as per constitution: Nasim

RANGPUR, March 30, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Presidium Member and spokesman of the 14-party alliance Mohammad Nasim here today said the next general election will be held in Bangladesh as per the constitution as elsewhere in the world.

“The next general election will be the final game. The Election Commission will be there as Referee. If Begum Khaleda Zia makes any fowl, she will be shown the red card,” Nasim, also Health and Family Welfare Minister, told a mass-rally held on the Public Library ground.

Rangpur unit of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance organised the mass rally to protest against the terrorism and anarchy of the BNP-Jamaat combine and the heinous attack on noted educationist Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.

With convener of Rangpur unit of the 14-party alliance and Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed in the chair, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi moderated the rally participated by the central and local leaders of the alliance.

Nasim said Bangladesh has been established at the cost of huge bloodsheds through the War of Liberation and the pro-liberation forces always became united in the past when necessary to thwart any threat of the anti-liberation forces.

“We want Begum Khaleda Zia comes out of the jail. The graft case was filed 10 years back and the trial court has sentenced her. We have nothing to do,” he said assuring Khaleda of proper treatment in the country if she was found ill.

“The next general election will be held in the country as per the constitution under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as it takes place in the USA, United Kingdom or other countries in the world and in no any other way,” he said.

Nasim invited Begum Khaleda Zia to take part in the next general election and said, “We do not want to score goal in the blank field. And so, come to the field and take part in the election and we will score the goal through playing well,” Nasim added.

Nasim said Begum Khaleda Zia has destroyed the concept of caretaker government by forcefully making the caretaker government of former President Iajuddin Ahmed.

“You (Khaleda Zia) have conducted fire terrorism and anarchy, burnt many innocent people to death, but you could not stop the election in 2014,” he said adding that many people could not cast their votes then for Khaleda Zia.

Nasim said the BNP-Jamaat clique is hatching conspiracies again to foil the next general election and called upon the leaders of the 14-party alliance for further strengthening unity to thwart the conspiracies and bring the pro-liberation forces, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to power again.

Citing recent comment “There is no peace in the country” of Hussein Muhammad Ershad, Nasim said Ershad did not make trial of the killer of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman like Khaleda’s BNP.

“We say, there is peace in the country and you (Ershad) come here and see the people are living well in peace and there is no monga for massive developments in every field during the past nine years.

Quoting announcement of the Prime Minister of setting up Medical University at every divisional headquarters, Nasim called upon the people of Rangpur to vote for ‘Boat’ in the next general election to get a Medical University in Rangpur city.

General Secretary of JASOD (Inu) Shirin Akhter, MP, said the anti-liberation forces conducted attack on Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal to kill him in Sylhet and the politics of BNP-Jamaat and militancy should be rooted out to establish the spirit of the War of Liberation.

General Secretary of the Workers’ Party Fazle Hossain Badsha, MP, said the 14-party alliance must be strengthened further to bury the conspiracies of the pro-Pakistani secret killers, militancy, razakars and al-badars those are still active on this soil.
