Construction of Khulna modern railway station progressing

KHULNA, March 30, 2018 (BSS) – Construction of modern railway station here is going on in full swing with expecting its inauguration by June this year, local railway officials said today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the modern railway station project by unveiling its plaque on March 3 last while visiting the southern city of the country. The Premier also inaugurated 52 new projects during the visit.

Railway officials said the construction of the project namely ‘Re-modeling of Khulna Station and Yard’ started in April, 2015 and the construction cost had been estimated Tk 61.27 crore.

Senior sub assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway (BR) Hafizur Rahman told BSS that at least 95 percent construction of the main building and 90 percent other construction works have been completed.

Parliament Standing Committee member on railway affairs and lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan said long cherished dream of country’s southwestern zone people will come to fulfill after being opened the new railway station.

“The trade and commerce, export and import would be extended through the railway station as well as the Padma Bridge,” he said, adding that trading will be increased between India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh through Mongla Port and modern railway station.
