Govt continues its initiatives for women empowerment: Matia

DHAKA, March 30, 2018 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury has said the government taken different initiatives to empower women in the country.

“The present government has been working tirelessly to empower women in the country and has taken various initiatives for them,” she said.

She was speaking as the chief guest at Bangladesh Police Women Award-2018 ceremony on Thursday at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the city.

The government has implemented National Women Development Policy – 2011 and reduced maternal mortality, violence against women and child marriage and increased women’s involvement in law-enforcement agencies, she said.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal attended the programme as special guest while Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary presided over the event.

The awards were given honour in six categories: Lifetime Achievement Award, Bangladesh Police Women Leadership Award, Medal of Courage, Excellence in Service, Community Service and Peacekeeping Mission.

The awardees were: Mili Biswas, deputy inspector general of Police Headquarters (PHQ), Saheli Ferdous, assistant inspector general of PHQ, Rumana Akther, special superintendent of CID, Mahmuda Afroz Lucky, additional deputy commissioner of DB, Hasina Begum, officer-in-charge of Baliakanda Police Station of Rajbari, Nurani Ferdous Disha, additional superintendent of Kushtia circle, Kazi Maksuda Lima, additional superintendent of Sreenagar circle, Constable Momtaz Khatun, Bagerhat DB police, Shamsunnahar, superintendent of Chandpur; Shahnaz Parveen, senior ac of Barisal Metropolitan Police, Shamsunnahar Akther, sub-inspector of Barguna district, Ranu Akther, SI of Palang Police Station of Shariatpur; Ismat Ara, SI of Woman and Child Help Desk of Chapainawabganj, Fatiha Yeasmin, SP of DMP, Khandakar Shamima Yeasmin, additional superintendent of PHQ, Shamima Akther, additional superintendent of Pabna, Najmun Nahar, additional superintendent of Traffic (East) of DMP, Maksuda Akter Khanam, additional superintendent of Passport of Special Branch (Dhaka) and Constable Sonia Akther of APBN-8.
